Corning Gorilla Glass 5 Introduces Self-Height Drop Survival

The release of the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 has just been announced by Corning (The company the smartphone glass). There has always been a new level in each successive generation or upgrade of the Gorilla Glass. As a means of responding to consumers’ No. 1 issue with mobile devices, the upgraded cover glass is designed to provide more protection against breakage from regular drops.

According to Corning, over 85% of smartphone owners have dropped their phones at least once per year with 55% of owners saying they’ve dropped their phones at least 3 times or more per year. As well, more than 60% of smartphone owners said they drop their phones between shoulder and waist height.
This drove Corning to develop a screen protection glass that can survive drops on rough surfaces and the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is the solution with rigorous lab tests showing that the Gorilla Glass 5 will survives drops onto rough, unforgiving surfaces up to four times better than competitive glass designs.
Last year was the release of Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and just a difference of about 27 inches has been improved on the Gorilla Glass 5. Drop takes have improved by 60 percent, up to 1.6 meters high enough for most selfie-takers with their stretched hands and sometimes, may mistakenly drop and the company was able to achieve 80 percent survival rate for drops at approximately 67 inches which is four times better than competing products.
